Those things aren’t actually mutually exclusive, though. Yes, MCU!Loki is 31 flavors of ice dick, but he’s also sad and misunderstood. Not ~misunderstood~ in the sense that what he’s doing is excusable because he’s such a sweet, precious baby who didn’t really mean to attempt genocide twice, but misunderstood in that he’s flipping the fuck out because he feels alone and scared and hurt, and no one around him seems to get that.
His whole story arc is about not fitting in or being accepted, and making increasingly horrific decisions in an attempt to prove himself and make himself fit or find somewhere to belong in the universe. He lost his shit because he felt misunderstood.
None of that excuses the fact that he keeps murdering people left and right, but I think both sides of this misunderstood/asshole debate are wrong oversimplifying his character.
